Frequently Asked Questions About Special Needs Schools in Solon

Who do I contact about a Solon preschooler's development?
Start with the Regano Early Learning Center, which lists its school psychologist as the contact for development concerns. Ohio's Department of Children and Youth says the date the district receives your request is the referral date. The district then has 30 days to decide whether to evaluate and must tell you in writing. For a child under 3, our early intervention guide covers the earlier steps.
What does the Solon parent mentor do?
Solon City Schools has a parent mentor who works with families for free. The mentor helps parents understand special education services, the IEP and 504 process, parent rights, and community resources. It is a good first call if you are new to special education or getting ready for a meeting. Pair that conversation with our IEP prep checklist so you arrive with your questions written down.
How long does an Ohio evaluation take?
Once you sign consent, the district has 60 days to finish the evaluation and decide whether your child qualifies. If your child is eligible, the district has 30 days to write the IEP, and you take part in that meeting. If the team finds your child not eligible, the district must give you the reason in writing, and you can challenge the decision. Our IEP guide explains each part of the plan.
Can a Solon family use the Jon Peterson Scholarship?
Possibly. Ohio's Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship covers students age 3 through 21 who have an IEP from their district of residence that every party, including the parent, has agreed to. Since September 30, 2025, 3 and 4 year olds with a compliant ETR and IEP can qualify. Families enroll through a participating provider first, and the award depends on the primary disability listed in the Evaluation Team Report.
