Lyndhurst, OHGrades PreK-88:1 ratio

The Sisters of Notre Dame founded Julie Billiart School in 1954 with 15 children, and in 1957 the Arter family donated their parents' 6-acre estate on Clubside Road in Lyndhurst, Ohio, so the school could grow. JB Lyndhurst was the first Julie Billiart campus, and classes still meet in the 1927 Arter Mansion, now joined by a gym, added classrooms and an art room. Inside are a chapel, a library, a makerspace, sensory-friendly classrooms and quiet spaces, an occupational therapy gym, and rooms for speech, art and music therapy. We are a Catholic, coeducational day school for students in kindergarten through eighth grade with mild to moderate autism, ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety and other learning differences, and families of all faiths are welcome. Two certified intervention specialists lead each classroom, keeping a 6:1 ratio in kindergarten through second grade and 8:1 in grades 3 to 8. Onsite speech, occupational, art and music therapists and board certified behavior analysts work with students every week. A Begindergarten kindergarten readiness class is also offered. Students with IEPs qualify for the Ohio Autism Scholarship or the Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship, and we add need-based aid. Our aftercare program offers homework help, snack and physical activity.

Comparing school options in Lyndhurst

Lyndhurst shares the South Euclid-Lyndhurst City School District with South Euclid. Special education questions go to the district's Office of Exceptional Students at 216-691-2026. The district provides a range of special education programs and services for school-age students, plus occupational, physical and speech therapy as related services when a child's IEP calls for them.

The Office of Exceptional Students is led by a director and coordinator who also oversee educational interventions. The district links families to the regional Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio and to the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities. For a child under 3, Ohio's Help Me Grow Early Intervention is the entry point. For a child from 3 until 6, ask the district for a preschool evaluation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Special Needs Schools in Lyndhurst

Which district serves Lyndhurst students with disabilities?
Lyndhurst is part of the South Euclid-Lyndhurst City School District. Its Office of Exceptional Students handles special education and can be reached at 216-691-2026. Ask for a written evaluation request form or send your own letter. Ohio gives the district 30 days from your request to decide whether to evaluate. Our evaluation request guide shows what to include.
What therapy services can a South Euclid-Lyndhurst student receive?
The district offers occupational and physical therapy as related services when a student's IEP goals could not be met without them, delivered by licensed therapists individually or in small groups. Speech and language services cover articulation, expressive language and receptive language. These services support learning at school; they are not a substitute for medical therapy.
What regional agencies does the district point Lyndhurst families to?
The Office of Exceptional Students links to the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio and to the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities. These are county and regional resources that sit alongside the district. South Euclid-Lyndhurst itself remains responsible for evaluating your child, deciding eligibility with you and writing the IEP, so send evaluation requests to the district.
What should I prepare before a first IEP meeting in Lyndhurst?
Gather your child's evaluation report, recent work samples, any outside reports and a short list of concerns and goals. You can invite people who know your child to the meeting, such as a therapist or relative. Ask for draft goals ahead of time if the team can share them, so you can read them calmly before the meeting. Our IEP prep checklist walks through the list.
