Lutheran Westland opened on Cowan Road in 1986 as one of three high schools run by the Lutheran High School Association of Greater Detroit, an association of about seventy congregations formed in 1944. We are affiliated with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, but students do not need to be Lutheran to attend. Our college prep curriculum includes Advanced Placement, virtual and dual-enrollment courses and a National Honor Society chapter, and we are accredited by National Lutheran School Accreditation and the Michigan Association of Non-Public Schools. Students gather each week for chapel, devotion and a leadership seminar, and the whole school takes part in an annual service day. Arts options include two to three drama productions a year, concert and pep band, concert choir, honors choir and chamber singers. Industrial arts classes teach woodworking, metalwork, screen printing, drafting and auto maintenance.
