Mauldin, SCGrades PreK-5

Mallika Vejay opened a Montessori classroom for her son and one other child in 1977. That small start grew into the Montessori School of Mauldin, which she still leads at 205b East Butler Road. Elementary students in grades 1–6 take on projects in small groups and investigate history, geometry, biology, music, art and Spanish. Frequently Asked Questions About Special Needs Schools in Mauldin

Who helps a Mauldin family with a baby or toddler?
BabyNet is South Carolina's early intervention program for children from birth to age 3, overseen by the Department of Health and Human Services. You do not need a doctor's referral. Refer online or call (866) 512-8881, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. A Central Referral team member will call you and can schedule an intake appointment. Our early intervention guide explains the next steps.
How long does Greenville County Schools have to finish an evaluation?
Greenville County Schools states that the initial evaluation must be conducted within 60 calendar days of receiving parental consent. The district must have your informed consent before the evaluation starts. Because the clock runs in calendar days, school breaks still count. Our guide on how to request a special education evaluation shows how to start.
What happens at school before a referral for a K-12 student?
Each Greenville County school has an MTSS On Track Team that runs general education intervention for students in kindergarten through grade 12 with academic, behavior, functional, or medical concerns that significantly affect their access to school. Interventions help the team understand what your child needs. You can still ask in writing for a special education evaluation. Our 504 plan vs. IEP guide covers both paths.
My child already has an IEP from another district. What should I do?
Tell the school at enrollment. The Greenville County Schools enrollment form asks about a new student's need for student support services. District policy says school staff review the form and immediately notify the right school and district personnel about an IEP or a 504 plan. Bring a copy of the current IEP and recent evaluations. Our IEP prep checklist helps you gather them.
