Frequently Asked Questions About Special Needs Schools in Greer

Which school district serves my Greer address?
The City of Greer lies in both Greenville and Spartanburg counties. Greenville County Schools runs Child Find for children residing in Greenville County. If you live on the Spartanburg County side, confirm your district by street address before you request a screening, because the Child Find office that serves you depends on where your child lives.
How long does an evaluation take after I give consent?
Greenville County Schools says the initial evaluation must be completed within 60 calendar days of receiving parental consent, and consent comes before testing begins. Parents must also be notified when a child is referred to the On Track Team. Track the dates yourself and ask for copies of every notice. Our evaluation guide explains each step.
What happens if we move to Greer with an existing IEP?
Greenville County Schools asks about special education and 504 history on its Student Enrollment Form. Under district policy, staff review the form, notify the right school and district staff, and request records from the sending school so they can put an IEP or 504 Plan in place. Bring your child's current IEP to enrollment.
Can South Carolina families get state money for private school or therapy?
The Education Scholarship Trust Fund, run by the South Carolina Department of Education, pays approved expenses that include educational therapies for students with disabilities. The 2026-2027 award is $7,634, and household income for that year could not exceed 500 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. A participant cannot enroll full time in the zoned public school.
