Seth Paine Elementary is one of five elementary schools in Lake Zurich's District 95, on Miller Road. Each day starts with a 10-minute morning meeting for social-emotional learning, and students spend 140 minutes on English language arts, 75 minutes on math and 30 minutes on social studies or science. Specials meet for 60 minutes four days a week and 30 minutes on the fifth. Our library, the Literacy and Innovation Hub, is staffed by a library media specialist and runs Battle of the Books along with the Monarch and Bluestem reading awards. Rev. Joseph Firnbach founded St. Francis de Sales Parish School in 1956, and what began as a small country elementary school now serves more than 250 students from preschool through eighth grade in Lake Zurich. The U.S. Department of Education named us a Blue Ribbon School in 2007 and again in 2018. A 2004 expansion added our science lab, computer center, library, music and art rooms, and gymnasium. Students in kindergarten through grade 3 work one-to-one with iPads, and grades 4 to 8 use Chromebooks. Many students in grades 4 to 8 move ahead on advanced math pathways, and the core curriculum includes art, music, technology, Spanish, and physical education. In grades K-4, small pull-out reading groups of 2 to 6 students meet twice a week, and from grade 5 a resource period replaces Spanish for students who need academic and organizational support. We write Individualized Catholic Support Plans for students with documented learning disabilities or medical needs, and a District 95 speech-language pathologist serves eligible students on site weekly.
