Frequently Asked Questions About Special Needs Schools in Smyrna

My Smyrna child is in private school. Can Cobb still evaluate?
Yes. Cobb asks families of private or home school students who suspect a disability to contact the Office of Psychological Services at (770) 514-4250 to make a referral. Put your concerns in writing, too. Our guide on how to request a special education evaluation helps you organize the request.
What services can private school students in Smyrna receive from Cobb?
Cobb says it offers speech and language services to eligible students with disabilities in non-profit private schools and homeschool, and may provide licenses for web-based instructional resources. These equitable services are more limited than an IEP in a Cobb school. Ask Cobb for an individual consultation if you have questions about what your child can receive.
Who decides special education transportation in Cobb schools?
The IEP team decides whether a student needs special education transportation. If it does, the case manager coordinates it. For changes like a move or a new pickup location, contact your child's case manager or the school's Support and Services Administrator. Changes can take time to set up, so call early.
What is a Facilitated IEP meeting in Cobb?
Cobb describes a Facilitated IEP Team Meeting as an optional process in which a neutral facilitator leads the meeting when team members agree a third party would help. It is meant to prevent and resolve disputes. Our IEP guide covers your other options if you disagree.
