Forbes School, located in Torrington, Connecticut, is dedicated to providing a nurturing and inclusive educational environment for prekindergarten and elementary students in grades 4 and 5. Our roots go back to 1893, when the Sisters of Mercy opened St. Francis of Assisi Parochial School in Torrington. That school later merged with St. Peter School, and in 2019 the parish reformed it as a STREAM academy under the name St. John Paul the Great. We still teach in the building completed in 1962 at 360 Prospect Street, with 16 classrooms, a full-size gymnasium and a cafeteria. We are a Catholic school for Pre-K 3 through grade 8. Our STREAM framework connects science, technology, religion, engineering, arts and math through project-based learning, computer science, engineering skills and research. For 2026 to 2027, tuition is $6,050 for kindergarten through 8th grade and $8,000 for full-day Pre-K 3 and 4, with a 10-month payment plan available. Every family receives an automatic multi-student discount, and our Just Tuition program sets a fair contribution based on household finances. Extended care runs until 5:30 p.m. on full and early-dismissal days.

Daily schedules include large and small group activities, free play, outdoor exploration, story time, and music and movement experiences, all crafted to support holistic learning progressions. A unique feature of this program is its collaboration with high school students from the THS Child Development staff, who gain valuable field experience while fostering meaningful connections with preschoolers. This partnership not only enriches the educational environment but also cultivates a strong sense of community among students of all ages.
