About Dyslexia Institute of Southern New Mexico — S Main St

The Dyslexia Institute of Southern New Mexico is a teaching and therapy organization on South Main Street in Las Cruces, working with students who are bright but hit an unexpected wall with reading, math, or both. Its motto is enabling minds to grow.

Instruction happens in a classroom of one to three students. The reading program uses the multisensory method developed at the Scottish Rite Children's Hospital in Dallas. It treats written English as a symbolic code to be mastered deliberately, rather than expecting a student to absorb it the way a mainstream classroom presents it. Elementary through middle school students work through Alphabetic Phonics and Take Flight.

The math side addresses dyscalculia with structured multisensory treatment, using research based programs and hands-on work to rebuild basic skills while dealing with the problems a student is hitting in class right now.

Provision does not stop at school age. The institute runs the Scottish Rite Adult Literacy Program for high school and college students and for adults, so a parent who never got remediated can be seen at the same place as their child. Families can call (575) 650-6820 or email disnm2010@gmail.com.

Adaptive Therapies

Farmington, NM
Ages 0+ In-person Occupational therapy Physical therapy

Adaptive Therapies is a therapy clinic on East Navajo Street in Farmington, serving San Juan County in New Mexico's northwest corner. It works primarily with children from birth to 21 and also offers therapy services for adults, so a family is not forced to change providers when a young person ages out. The clinical approach is play-based. The practice's stated position is that a child's primary occupation is play, and that play supports every area of development and learning, so sessions are structured around it rather than around drills. Clinicians carry more than 30 years of combined experience across occupational and physical therapy. What families describe most consistently is scheduling and reliability: appointments arranged around a child's school and sport commitments, and sessions that start and end on time. That sounds minor until you are the parent driving across a rural county twice a week. Therapists are named and stay with a child over years rather than rotating. Farmington is the practical hub for families across the Four Corners, and this is one of very few pediatric therapy options in the area. Call (505) 386-0075 to ask about availability and which insurance is accepted.

Amplified Therapy

Cliff, NM
Ages 0-3 In-home Early intervention Speech therapy

Amplified Therapy delivers early intervention in southwestern New Mexico from a base in Cliff, in Grant County. It provides services under the New Mexico Family Infant Toddler program, known as FIT, which supports families of children from newborn to age three who have a developmental delay or disability or who are at risk of one. The FIT structure is worth understanding because it removes the two obstacles that usually stop rural families getting help. Services are delivered in the family's own home and other natural settings rather than at a clinic, so there is no long drive, and FIT is a publicly funded entitlement rather than a private-pay service. A referral does not require a diagnosis; concern about development is enough to start an evaluation. The practice has expanded its early intervention coverage into Lincoln and Eddy counties, which broadens its reach well beyond Grant County across a sparsely served part of the state. Families describe therapists coming to the house and working with children from as young as eight weeks, with named therapists handling both evaluation and ongoing visits. Because services are home-based, the Cliff address is an office rather than a treatment site. Call (575) 535-2499 to ask what the team covers in your county.
