Kyo (formerly Gateway Learning Group) was founded in 2005 by Melissa Willa and Colin Davitian. Driven by a mission to make effective intervention accessible to more families, Kyo has grown into a provider that implements behavioral interventions within a developmental framework, ensuring that therapy is not just about behavior reduction but about holistic growth. Their approach is "child-centric," focusing on what motivates each individual child. Kyo therapists work to expand language and social skills by capturing moments of joy and connection. They emphasize that children learn best when they are engaged, so they prioritize naturalistic teaching methods that fit into a child's daily life—whether that means meeting in a park, at school, or in the comfort of their own home. Kyo is distinguished by its highly customized service delivery models. They offer flexible scheduling that includes after-school and weekend options to accommodate busy family lives. Why Choose ABA Therapy in Atlanta?

Atlanta is the epicenter of autism treatment in Georgia, with the highest concentration of BCBAs and ABA therapy providers in the state. The Marcus Autism Center—a partnership between Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University School of Medicine—treats over 5,000 children per year across three locations and is one of the top-ranked autism programs in the country. Beyond Marcus, Atlanta has dozens of private ABA clinics, in-home providers, and hospital-affiliated programs spread across the metro. Families in Midtown, Buckhead, Decatur, East Atlanta, and the Perimeter area all have options within a reasonable drive. Georgia's autism insurance mandate (Ava's Law, HB 429) and Medicaid programs like the Katie Beckett/TEFRA Deeming Waiver and the Georgia Pediatric Program (GAPP) make intensive ABA accessible to families across income levels.

Comprehensive Autism Therapy Services in Atlanta

Atlanta families can choose from clinic-based ABA, in-home therapy, school consultation, and hybrid models. The Marcus Autism Center (main campus at 1920 Briarcliff Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30329; 404-785-9400) offers diagnostic evaluations, research-backed treatment programs, feeding programs, and parent training. Marcus also operates satellite locations at the Northside Professional Center (975 Johnson Ferry Rd NE, Suite 380) and Children's at Forsyth (410 Peachtree Pkwy, Suite 300, Cumming, GA 30041). For ongoing daily ABA, many families use private providers: ABA Centers of Georgia (3098 Piedmont Rd NE #200, Atlanta, GA 30324; 855-929-5058) offers in-home ABA with rapid intake and accepts most insurance, and also has an Alpharetta location (4300 Alexander Dr #200, Alpharetta, GA 30022). The Atlanta Autism Center is another BCBA-staffed local option. Early intervention for children birth to 3 is available through Babies Can't Wait, Georgia's Part C program administered by the Department of Public Health—you can search for your local BCW coordinator at the DPH service finder. Parent to Parent of Georgia (800-229-2038) connects families with trained parent mentors who have navigated the system themselves. Speech therapy, occupational therapy, and social skills groups are widely available across the metro, so families can assemble a full care team without traveling far. When exploring special needs educational programs alongside behavioral therapy, families in Atlanta often find that coordinated services produce the best outcomes.

Understanding Insurance Coverage for ABA Therapy in Atlanta

Georgia autism coverage is anchored in 'Ava's Law' (Senate Bill 118), which mandates that most state-regulated insurance plans cover Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for individuals up to age 20. For families on Medicaid, the Georgia Pediatric Program (GAPP) provides a critical pathway, covering medically necessary ABA and skilled nursing for children with significant needs. In 2025 and 2026, families have seen improved parity in private plans, though individual caps (often around $35,000 yearly for younger children) may still apply depending on the specific plan type. Major carriers like Anthem BCBS, Aetna, and UnitedHealthcare are the primary commercial payers in the state. Families seeking additional support may find valuable resources through Georgia's special needs resource directory.

Georgia Autism Support Programs and Regulations

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) manages the COMP and NOW waivers, which are essential for long-term behavioral support, though waitlists remain a challenge. For immediate early intervention, 'Babies Can't Wait' (BCW) serves children from birth to age 3, providing evaluations and service coordination. A notable 2026 trend is the expansion of 'Tailored' coordinated care models intended to integrate mental and physical health. Families can check the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) for Medicaid GAPP eligibility and for providers that accept Peach State or Amerigroup. When exploring specialized educational programs to complement ABA therapy, Atlanta families have access to a comprehensive network of support services.

Selecting the right ABA therapy provider in Atlanta is an important decision that can significantly impact your child's progress. The 31 therapy centers serving the Atlanta area each bring unique strengths, from specialized early intervention programs to school-based services and intensive behavioral support. Many Atlanta providers offer comprehensive parent training, ensuring that therapeutic strategies extend seamlessly into daily life. With Georgia's strong insurance protections and regulatory framework supporting autism treatment, families in Atlanta can confidently access high-quality, evidence-based ABA therapy services designed to help children reach their full potential.

Frequently Asked Questions About ABA Therapy in Atlanta

How much does ABA therapy cost in Atlanta?
ABA therapy in Atlanta typically costs $100–$175 per hour without insurance. Most families don't pay that out of pocket. Ava's Law (HB 429) requires state-regulated health plans to cover ABA therapy up to $35,000 per year for children under 6 and $30,000 per year for ages 6–20. Self-funded employer plans (common at large companies) may have different rules—check your plan documents or call the number on your insurance card. For families on Georgia Medicaid, the Georgia Pediatric Program (GAPP) covers medically necessary ABA at no cost for children with significant disabilities.
What is the Marcus Autism Center and how do I get in?
The Marcus Autism Center is a partnership between Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University that treats over 5,000 children per year. It offers diagnostic evaluations, intensive treatment programs, feeding therapy, and research-backed interventions. Marcus has three locations: the main campus at 1920 Briarcliff Rd NE (404-785-9400), a Northside location at 975 Johnson Ferry Rd NE Suite 380, and Children's at Forsyth at 410 Peachtree Pkwy Suite 300 in Cumming. To start, call 404-785-9400 for an intake appointment. Wait times for evaluations can run several months, so many families get on the Marcus list while also starting services with a private ABA provider.
What is the Katie Beckett / TEFRA Deeming Waiver?
The Katie Beckett Waiver (formally the TEFRA Deeming Waiver) lets children under 18 with significant disabilities qualify for Georgia Medicaid based on the child's own medical needs—not the family's income. This is how many middle-income Atlanta families fund intensive ABA that exceeds their private insurance caps. The program is managed by a centralized team at 2211 Beaver Ruin Rd, Suite 150, Norcross, GA 30071 (phone 678-248-7449). Authorizations are for 2-year periods. You'll need clinical documentation of your child's disability and functional limitations.
What is the GAPP program and does it cover ABA?
The Georgia Pediatric Program (GAPP) is a Medicaid program for children with significant disabilities that covers skilled nursing and medically necessary therapies, including ABA. GAPP enrollment requires a thorough medical review of clinical records. It can cover 100% of ABA costs for eligible children regardless of family income. Contact your local Medicaid office or your child's ABA provider to ask about GAPP eligibility.
What is Babies Can't Wait and how do I enroll in Atlanta?
Babies Can't Wait (BCW) is Georgia's Part C early intervention program for children birth to age 3 with developmental delays or disabilities. It's administered through the Department of Public Health and provides free evaluations, developmental therapy, speech therapy, and family support in the child's natural environment. To find your local BCW coordinator in the Atlanta area, visit the DPH service finder online or call Parent to Parent of Georgia at 800-229-2038 for help navigating the referral process.
What does Ava's Law actually cover?
Ava's Law (HB 429) is Georgia's autism insurance mandate. It requires state-regulated health plans to cover the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder, including ABA therapy. Annual benefit caps are $35,000 for children under 6 and $30,000 for ages 6–20. The law applies to individual and small-group plans regulated by the Georgia Department of Insurance. Self-funded employer plans (where the employer pays claims directly rather than buying insurance) are governed by federal ERISA law and may not be subject to Ava's Law—contact your plan administrator to confirm.
Are there ABA providers besides Marcus in Atlanta?
Yes, Atlanta has a large network of private ABA providers. ABA Centers of Georgia (3098 Piedmont Rd NE #200; 855-929-5058) offers in-home ABA with fast intake and accepts most insurance. The Atlanta Autism Center provides BCBA-staffed clinic and home-based services. National providers like Hopebridge and Butterfly Effects also have Atlanta-area locations. Many families use Marcus for diagnostics and complex evaluations, then work with a private clinic for their child's daily 25–40 hours of intensive ABA.
How do I find a BCBA or ABA provider in Atlanta?
You can search the BACB Certificant Registry to find Board Certified Behavior Analysts near you. Your pediatrician or insurance company can also provide a list of in-network ABA providers. For Medicaid families, your managed care plan will have a provider directory. Parent to Parent of Georgia (800-229-2038) and the Marcus Autism Center can also point you to local resources.
