Salem Woods Elementary School has served families on Wagner Road since 1980, but today's students learn in a building rebuilt during a year-long 2018 project. The new two-story school turned outdoor walkways into indoor hallways, grouped classrooms around shared learning spaces and added a new library and main office; only the multipurpose gym was kept. Outside, children play on an irrigated grass playfield, a baseball field and soft-surface and concrete play areas. We teach kindergarten through fifth grade in traditional classrooms and also host highly capable classes for grades 3 to 5. Teachers use i-Ready in reading and math to see each student's strengths and plan targeted support or extra challenge. As part of the Monroe School District, students who qualify receive resource special education services alongside the general education curriculum, with supports such as speech or occupational therapy written into each child's IEP.
