Frequently Asked Questions About Special Needs Schools in Bonney Lake

Which school district handles Child Find for my Bonney Lake address?
It depends on the address. The City of Bonney Lake's resource directory lists schools under the Sumner-Bonney Lake, White River and Dieringer school districts. Each district runs its own Child Find screenings. Look up your address with the district, then call that district's special education office.
How do I know if my preschooler should be screened?
Sumner-Bonney Lake posts a developmental milestones chart for preschool ages. If your child cannot do the activities listed for their age, the district suggests a screening may help. The screening looks at cognitive, communication, fine and gross motor, self-help and social-emotional skills. Call 253-891-6037 with questions.
What comes after a preschool screening?
The screening shows whether your child should have a full special education evaluation. If so, the district asks for your written consent and completes the evaluation within Washington's 35-school-day timeline. If your child qualifies, an IEP team that includes you decides services and setting. Our IEP guide walks through that meeting.
How do I ask for an evaluation for an older child?
Write to a special education staff member at your child's school, such as the principal or school psychologist, and to the district special education director. Email counts as writing. Explain every area of concern and attach supporting records. Keep a copy, because your written request starts the district's 25-school-day decision window.
