Spanish Schoolhouse - Allen

Listed
Allen, TXGrades PreK-5

At our Allen campus on North Alma Drive, near Exchange Parkway, children spend the preschool day hearing and speaking Spanish. Spanish Schoolhouse started in 1999 as weekly lessons for small groups in a Plano home and opened its first immersion preschool in 2003. Our teachers are native Spanish speakers who also speak English, and children need no Spanish to start. Ratios are 6:1 in our two-year-old class, 8:1 for threes and 10:1 for fours. The preschool curriculum, written by Texas-certified teachers around the state's preschool TEKS, covers literacy, math, science and motor skills, and three- and four-year-olds also build English literacy in small groups with an English teacher. Handwriting Without Tears begins at age two. Kindergarten runs 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., either five days (three in Spanish, two in English) or three days all in Spanish, at a 12:1 ratio with optional extended care. The campus is open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. We also offer summer camps for ages 3 to 8, after-school Spanish classes for K-5 students and Mommy and Me classes for toddlers.

Frequently Asked Questions About Special Needs Schools in Allen

Who can refer a child to Allen ISD Child Find?
Anyone. Texas guidance says a parent, doctor, teacher, relative, or friend can contact the local district's Child Find. Allen ISD Special Services takes those calls at 972-727-0490. Parents still make the decisions, and the district needs your consent before it evaluates. Our evaluation guide explains how to word a request.
How long does an initial evaluation take in Texas?
After a written request to the special education director or a campus administrator, the district has 15 school days to give prior written notice and ask for consent, or to explain a refusal. The evaluation is due no later than 45 school days after the district receives written consent, with adjustments near the end of the school year.
My child is 18 months old. Where do we go?
Start with an Early Childhood Intervention agency, which serves children from birth to the third birthday for learning, speech, behavior, or other delays. School districts such as Allen ISD serve eligible children starting at 3. Plan the move to school services before the third birthday. See our early intervention guide.
Does Allen ISD offer dyslexia services or 504 plans?
Yes. Allen ISD's Special Services department lists Child Find, Section 504, special education, and dyslexia services. A 504 plan gives accommodations to a student with a disability who may not need specially designed instruction. Compare the two in our 504 vs IEP guide, then ask the campus which process fits.
