Dawn School
The Dawn School is a K–12 program in Hamilton County Schools’ Exceptional Education Department. We provide intensive behavioral, academic, social, and emotional support in a therapeutic setting. Our work is guided by the belief that every student can learn, and that we must understand how each student learns best. We help students build skills for greater self-sufficiency and productive participation in their communities. Students work toward goals through individualized plans, structured classrooms, and one-on-one support. The program addresses behavior, academics, social development, and emotional skills together. For some students, Dawn is a step toward returning to their home school; others may continue with us through graduation. The time a student spends here varies with their needs and progress. When students return to their home school, staff check in with them as they settle back in and use the skills they practiced at Dawn. Our vision is to help students strengthen the behavioral, academic, social, and emotional skills they need for what comes next. We celebrate student achievements and equip learners to keep growing. Families can reach our team at 4626 Oakwood Drive in Chattanooga to discuss the program and school logistics. The school day runs from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; the Dawn site also links families to bus information, meals, and school fees. As a Hamilton County Schools program, Dawn serves students whose educational needs call for the intensive supports provided in this setting.
Michaels Homeschool Academy
Michaels Homeschool Academy is a Christ-centered homeschool academy serving families in the Chattanooga area, now operating from its own space in East Ridge. It began in fall 2009 with a physical education program for K5 through eighth grade and grew year by year: high school PE in 2013, Spanish in 2014, mathematics in 2015, sciences and music in 2016, art and Health/CPR/First Aid in 2017, then IEW English, computer, and ACT/SAT prep courses in 2019, at which point it was recognized as a full academy. Courses now run from K5 through high school, and students take field trips, produce a yearbook, and join extracurricular activities. Yearly membership is available to families who are not registered for classes.
