Lakes And Bridges Charter School

Dyslexia or a specific learning disability must be a student's primary learning difficulty to meet our mission-specific admissions criteria at Lakes and Bridges Charter School. We are a South Carolina Alternative Education Campus for children who need instruction focused on reading development and the social demands of school. A qualified applicant must live in South Carolina. We review the completed application and its supporting records before deciding whether the student meets those criteria. Evidence may come from a formal evaluation, appropriate educational documentation or an assessment identifying the characteristics of dyslexia. Families may submit an Individualized Education Program, a Section 504 plan or a recent psychological evaluation for that review. Our admissions team considers the information together as it evaluates the fit with our school's purpose.

An informal in-house screening can help when the team needs more information to make an enrollment decision. That screening does not produce a diagnostic report. Its role stays within the admissions review, and families should understand that distinction when considering the program. Qualified applicants enter a lottery during the application window. We maintain a waiting list when places fill. The reading-focused program also addresses the social demands that accompany school. Our admissions review considers a child's documented learning needs against that purpose; additional in-house screening supports an enrollment decision without providing a diagnostic report.
