About Western Suffolk Boces Second
Brennan Middle/High School on Mount Avenue is one of the special education schools run by Western Suffolk BOCES. Students come to us through the Committee on Special Education of their home district, and our programs serve middle and high school students with educational and emotional needs who have not succeeded in a traditional school.
Brennan High School students are enrolled in Option IIIA classes of 8 students with 1 teacher and 1 paraprofessional, designed for students with intensive management needs. Instruction follows the Common Core Learning Standards, and students receive ongoing services from consulting psychiatrists employed by the Office of Mental Health or BOCES. Transitional classes prepare students who are ready to move back into a regular high school.
We also run an after-school program for students who cannot attend a full day because of a disability, or who work during the day and need to finish high school coursework. Our PASS program serves classified and non-classified middle and high school students who need an alternative setting, with a highly structured small-group environment for students facing truancy, disruptive behavior, or low achievement.
