Small Wonder opened on May 22, 1989 with one classroom and six students. Since then we have served thousands of 3 and 4 year olds with disabilities from our building on Myrtle Avenue in Glendale, Queens, across the street from Victory Field in Forest Park. We run full-day classes at a 12:1:2 ratio, with one-to-one paraprofessionals and FM units where children need them. We have classes for children with autism, PDD and developmental disabilities, for children with auditory processing disorders, and for children who wear hearing aids. Our curriculum follows the New York State learning standards, and children receive hearing education, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and play therapy, with music, yoga, dance and art therapy added in. Our team holds New York State certifications and licenses and includes a teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing, school psychologists and therapists, with staff who speak Arabic, Bengali, Haitian-Creole, French, Hindi, Portuguese and Spanish. We are also an approved NYSED evaluation site, and evaluations cost families nothing.
