About Brooklyn Blue Feather Elementary
Brooklyn Blue Feather Elementary (BBF) is an Applied Behavior Analysis program for school-age children with autism spectrum disorders, operated by AHRC New York City. Approved by the New York State Education Department, the school serves students ages 5 to 12 who reside in the five boroughs and are referred to a nonpublic setting by the New York City Department of Education. Classifications served include Autism, Multiple Disabilities, Emotional Disability, Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, and Other Health Impaired.
Educational programming is highly individualized, delivered in small class ratios (8:1:4, 8:1:2, 8:1:1, and 10:1:2) that pair certified behavior trainers with assistants and one-to-one aides. Instruction draws on the STAR autism curriculum, structured literacy and math programs, ABA, PECS, AAC devices, assistive technology, and sensory integration, all mapped to each student's IEP goals and New York State standards.
A full clinical and support team surrounds each student, including BCBAs, RBTs, a school psychologist, social worker, speech-language pathology, occupational and physical therapy, hearing services, and a registered nurse. There are no out-of-pocket costs for families, as tuition is funded by the school district at a state-set rate.
