About The New York Institute for Special Education - Bronx

The Schermerhorn Program serves students ages 5 to 21 who are legally blind. Students follow diploma-track or modified academic programs, with an optional five-day residential placement. The Readiness Program is a full-day, center-based preschool for Bronx children ages 3 to 5 referred through the Committee on Preschool Special Education. Classes are small, with a teacher and two assistants, and include speech, occupational, and physical therapy plus counseling when the IEP requires them.
