About Success on the Spectrum Ramsey ( ABA School /Alternative Placement/ After school) - Ramsey

Success On The Spectrum Ramsey provides full-day, part-time, and after-school ABA programs for children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) whose behavioral, communication, or developmental needs may interfere with successful participation in a traditional general or special education setting.

Our program can serve as an alternative therapeutic placement for children who require a more intensive level of individualized behavioral support than a traditional classroom can provide. We also support children who need full-time, one-on-one ABA therapy to develop the foundational skills necessary to successfully enter, return to, or participate more independently in a school environment.

Each child receives an individualized, data-driven treatment program based on their specific needs. Programming may target communication, functional and adaptive skills, social interaction, attending and learning-readiness skills, transitions, following classroom routines, and reduction of behaviors that interfere with learning or safety.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Success on the Spectrum Ramsey ( ABA School /Alternative Placement/ After school) - Ramsey

How do I know if my child with autism would benefit from an intensive ABA setting rather than a traditional special education program?

SOS Ramsey may be a better fit when a child with autism needs a more intensive and individualized level of support than can be provided in a traditional special education classroom. This may include children whose behavioral, communication, adaptive, or learning-readiness needs significantly interfere with their ability to participate in a classroom or benefit from instruction. Our setting may also be appropriate for children who require consistent 1:1 ABA intervention throughout the day, frequent BCBA supervision, and an individualized, data-driven treatment plan. Rather than expecting the child to adapt to the classroom first, we focus on building the foundational skills needed for successful school participation. For some children, SOS Ramsey can serve as a therapeutic bridge to school, targeting communication, independence, attending, transitions, classroom routines, social skills, and behaviors that interfere with learning or safety, with the goal of preparing the child to participate successfully in the most appropriate educational environment.

Special ed school provides ABA therapy too, what is the difference?

Many special education schools incorporate ABA strategies, but the intensity and primary focus of services may be different. In a school, ABA is typically provided within an educational program, where the primary goal is helping the student access their education and meet educational objectives. At SOS Ramsey, ABA therapy is the primary program. Children can receive consistent 1:1 intervention throughout their day, with treatment individualized to their behavioral, communication, social, adaptive, and learning-readiness needs. Progress is continuously measured through data, with ongoing BCBA supervision and treatment adjustments based on the child’s response. For children whose needs currently make it difficult to benefit from a classroom-based program, this intensive therapeutic setting can focus first on building the foundational skills needed to learn successfully. The goal may be to help prepare the child to transition or return to an appropriate educational setting when ready.

What about my child's educational needs?

SOS Ramsey is an ABA therapy provider, not a school, so we work with families to make sure they understand the importance of having a separate plan for their child’s educational needs. For children whose parents choose not to enroll them in a traditional school setting at this time, families may explore an appropriate homeschooling solution to address academic instruction while the child receives intensive ABA therapy at SOS Ramsey. In other situations, families may work directly with their school district and Child Study Team to determine an appropriate educational plan, including whether an alternative placement or other individualized arrangement can address the child’s educational goals while intensive behavioral needs are being supported. Our ABA programming can complement these educational plans by focusing on the communication, independence, attending, social, and learning-readiness skills that can help a child access education more successfully and prepare for future participation in a school environment.

I don't want my child to feel isolated

1:1 ABA does not mean your child spends the day isolated from other children. At SOS Ramsey, therapy takes place in a social, interactive environment where children have opportunities to play, participate in group activities, practice social skills, and learn alongside peers while still receiving individualized support. For some children, SOS Ramsey may also be used part-time or after school, allowing them to remain connected to their school community while receiving additional intensive ABA support. For children who temporarily require a full-day ABA program, the goal is not to replace school indefinitely. When appropriate, treatment can focus on developing the communication, independence, social, behavioral, and classroom-readiness skills that can help the child successfully participate in a school environment in the future.

If my child is not in school he will miss so much of school experience

Children need more than therapy—they need opportunities to play, make friends, participate in activities, celebrate special moments, and feel part of a community. At SOS Ramsey, we intentionally incorporate many experiences children would typically enjoy at school. Children spend time with peers in our lunchroom and playground, participate in art projects and social play, enjoy community events and field trips, and take part in special traditions such as Picture Day and seasonal celebrations. The difference is that these experiences happen within a therapeutic environment where children can receive the individualized 1:1 ABA support they need to participate successfully. Our goal is not to isolate children from typical childhood experiences. It is to give them those meaningful experiences while helping them develop the communication, social, independence, and learning-readiness skills that can prepare them for greater success in a school environment.

Can I shadow my child and see how's his day looks like?

Transparency and parent involvement are an important part of SOS Ramsey. Our center has full video surveillance throughout the treatment areas, and parents can observe their child from our dedicated Parent Viewing Room. This allows you to see what your child’s day actually looks like—how they interact with their therapist, participate in activities, play, learn, and engage with other children—without entering the treatment space and changing the natural environment. We want parents to feel connected to their child’s treatment and comfortable with the care they receive. In addition to observation, families participate in regular parent training and communication with the clinical team, so you can understand what your child is working on, follow their progress, and learn how to support those skills at home. At SOS Ramsey, we believe families should have full transparency into their child’s care.
