About Stony Brook Elementary School

Stony Brook Elementary is a kindergarten through 4th grade school on Grove Street with about 245 students. We are one of four North Plainfield schools that house the district's Dual Language Academy, a 50-50 English and Spanish immersion program that the NJDOE has named a Model Program.

All students study reading, writing, math, social studies, science and Spanish, with art, music, physical education, health and library skills built in. Teachers use a reading workshop model, and our Intervention and Referral Services team supports students who need extra help.

After dismissal, students in grades 2 to 4 can join Art Club, and our free 21st Century After School Program offers homework help, enrichment and recreation for grades 3 to 6. Our EarlyAct club, sponsored by the Plainfield-North Plainfield Rotary, runs three service projects a year, and an active PTA sponsors enrichment activities throughout the year.
