FlexSchool

FlexSchool opened in 2014 with seven students in shared space, started for one twelve-year-old girl whose high test scores and poor grades left her with no school that fit. We are now an accredited private school for gifted students, many of whom also manage challenges such as ADHD or executive functioning difficulties. Our Berkeley Heights campus serves grades 3 to 12, plus a post-graduate year and a High School Extension program for students who want another year before college or work.

Classes are small and discussion-based, and students who show mastery can accelerate into higher-level or AP courses. Every student gets time for passion projects along with enrichment clusters, field trips and guest speakers. Executive functioning support runs through advisory and extended learning time, and our certified school counselors keep an open-door policy and lead weekly small-group social-emotional learning. Occupational therapy, speech-language services, scheduled individual counseling and aide services are available as add-ons.

Our building mixes open-concept and walled classrooms, with couches and bean bags, four community spaces and an outdoor patio. We work with district placements and offer financial aid.
