St. Bonaventure Elementary School

Columbus, NE Grades PreK-5
Catholic education Financial aid Private school

Catholic schooling in Columbus dates to 1878, when the city's first parish school opened on the site where Scotus Central Catholic stands today. Ground was broken for the St. Bonaventure Elementary School building and its convent on June 26, 1950. Our preschool started in 1990 in a small part of the convent and moved into a new preschool and child care addition on the west end of the building in 2004. Our 3-year-old and 4-year-old preschoolers come two or three mornings a week, and our Pre-K class for four- and five-year-olds meets five mornings or five afternoons. Each early childhood level works through themes that blend science, art, music, reading, language, math, social studies, life skills and religion. We also offer child care and a preschool summer camp. St. Bon is one of four schools in Columbus Catholic Schools, alongside St. Anthony Elementary, St. Isidore Elementary and Scotus Central Catholic for grades 7 to 12, so students have a Catholic path from preschool through graduation. New families register through the system and can apply for financial aid.

Catholic education Faith formation Financial aid

St. Isidore Elementary is the Catholic grade school on 20th Street in Columbus, serving kindergarten through sixth grade as one of four schools in the Columbus Catholic Schools system alongside St. Anthony, St. Bonaventure and Scotus Central Catholic, where our graduates can continue for grades 7 to 12. Faith is part of every day, and our stated purpose is forming disciples of Christ who grow in faith, service, character and knowledge. Classrooms use Lexia Core5 and PowerUp, Reading Plus and XtraMath for reading and math practice, and students learn coding through Code.org projects and build keyboarding skills with typing programs. Lunch is served at school, and families can apply for financial aid through the system. Younger children start in the St. Isidore Preschool and Pre-K. Preschool families choose two, three or four mornings a week, and Pre-K meets five mornings or five afternoons, with monthly tuition between $110 and $240. Daycare is available from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for children enrolled in our preschool or elementary school, billed by the hour, and an after-school program follows the same faith-centered approach.
