Benedicite Education

Listed
Wentzville, MO

Benedicite Education began in 2014 with a group of parents who wanted something different for their children, and has spent the decade since advocating in the Wentzville community for natural, self-directed learning that supports the whole individual. The program runs on a hybrid model combining class work, independent study, off-campus experiences and life skills, in multi-age classes that use social and emotional learning as their foundation. Success is measured in individual progress rather than standardized tests, and the curriculum follows the children: concepts are presented rather than dogma enforced, and learners of all ages are asked to question everything. The focus is on how to learn and adapt, so students can contribute as citizens of the world, stewards of the earth and leaders in their own lives.

Pearce Hall is the Wentzville School District's alternative high school campus, housed in a building that dates to 1957. Over the course of a year we serve about 150 students in grades 10 to 12 who come to us from the district's four high schools, and students stay eligible to take part in events at their home school. In our High School Alternative Program, students earn credit through online courses, performance-based learning, and project-based learning, and they build career, life, and self-regulation skills for life after graduation. The Missouri Option Program, sponsored by DESE, serves seniors 17 or older who are at least a full year behind in credits and uses HiSET instruction and testing. Beyond the Bells offers after-school, one-on-one instruction with our teachers for a small group of students, and we also run a Substance Abuse Intervention Program. Mental health services are central to our work. Students can meet with support counselors and join music therapy, horticultural therapy, therapeutic boxing, yoga, poetry, art, and sports groups.

Comparing school options in Wentzville

Wentzville School District runs special education for the city from its Interstate Drive offices, and its department oversees three named programs: Barfield Early Childhood Special Education for preschoolers, Parents as Teachers for families with young children, and the REACH Adaptive Learning Center for students in kindergarten through 12th grade who need highly specialized instruction and therapy. Placement in REACH or any setting outside a child's home school is a decision for the IEP team, which includes the parents, not a separate application. The department also posts Missouri's Parent's Bill of Rights, procedural safeguards notice and parent guide to special education, worth reading before a first meeting.

Two Missouri rules shape choices here. State law requires public schools to screen students for dyslexia, and a positive screen signals a need for support rather than a medical diagnosis. MOScholars, the state's education savings account, counts an approved IEP as a qualifying criterion with no household income test. Families comparing private schools around Wentzville can ask each one whether it takes MOScholars funds, which Educational Assistance Organization it works with, and what support it can promise in writing.

Frequently Asked Questions About Special Needs Schools in Wentzville

Where do Wentzville students with autism and complex needs learn?
The district's REACH Adaptive Learning Center on West Meyer Road is an alternative placement for K-12 students with a range of special needs. Teachers work beside speech, occupational and physical therapists and nurses. Students start with a low student-to-staff ratio and move into larger groups when ready. Ask your IEP team whether REACH fits.
How does Missouri dyslexia screening work for a Wentzville student?
Missouri law requires public schools to screen for dyslexia. A positive result is not a diagnosis; it means your child could benefit from support. Ask which screener the school uses and what intervention follows a flag. For attention concerns, compare a 504 plan with an IEP in our 504 vs IEP guide.
What happens to IEP services if I choose a private school?
A child you place in private school yourself has no individual right to the full IEP. Missouri districts set aside a proportionate share of federal funds for privately placed students ages 5 to 21, so services are narrower than in a public school. You pay tuition, though MOScholars can help.
Can a Wentzville student with an IEP use MOScholars in 2026-27?
Yes. A Missouri student with an approved IEP meets the eligibility criteria without an income test. The State Treasurer runs the program, and nonprofit Educational Assistance Organizations award scholarships. A student with a current IEP may receive up to 175 percent of the state adequacy target. Funds cover tuition at a qualified Missouri school, therapies and tutoring, but not out-of-state tuition.
What should I ask when visiting a school in or near Wentzville?
Ask whether teachers hold Missouri special education certification, how many adults work in each room, which therapies happen on site, and whether the school uses seclusion or restraint. Ask how often you will see data on IEP goals. Our school visit checklist adds more.
How do I ask Wentzville School District for an evaluation?
Put the request in writing to your child's principal or the district special education department, and keep a dated copy. Federal special education law requires every district to identify, locate and evaluate children with disabilities. Our evaluation request guide covers what to write.
What does Barfield offer children ages 3 to 5?
Barfield Early Childhood Special Education serves children 3 through 5 with a significant delay or disability, free for those who qualify. Children who turn 3 before August 1 can attend; those turning 5 before August 1 go to kindergarten. Integrated classrooms mix children with and without IEPs. For babies and toddlers under 3, Missouri's early intervention program is First Steps.
What if the district cannot meet my child's needs?
The IEP team can refer a student to Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled, a state-run system for ages 5 to 21, when the district cannot meet the student's needs. DESE has recommended consolidating MSSD's 34 locations into 12 newer facilities over ten years, so ask which site would serve St. Charles County.
