For more than 25 years, Fox Hill School has run a play-based preschool in a historic schoolhouse on Water Street in Danvers. We serve children from 2.9 to 5 years old in two mixed-age classrooms: the upstairs Lions class of up to 14 children with two teachers, and the downstairs Tigers class of up to 20 with three teachers, both at a 7:1 ratio. Our Tell Me a Story curriculum starts with a focus book, and the details children notice in it lead investigations that can last three days or three months. Classrooms have centers for blocks, woodworking, cooking, sensory play, science and a listening library, and outside our playground includes a mud kitchen. Weekly enrichment brings art with Create Space Danvers, yoga, hands-on science and Kindermusik. In the year before kindergarten, children join our Kindergarten Readiness program, which uses the same 95 Phonics Core Program as the Danvers Public Schools. We are open September through June, and families choose morning preschool, preschool plus lunch bunch, or a full school day. Each summer we offer weekly sessions for ages 3 to 8, including a creative arts camp.
