Two longtime educators started SKC Early Education Centers to give Prince George's County families a safe early-childhood program with a structured academic foundation. The center at 70 Watkins Park Drive in Upper Marlboro, in the Kettering area (ZIP 20774), is one of three locations, with other sites on Trade Zone Avenue in Upper Marlboro and Lottsford Road in Largo. The program is Christian-based early childhood education and daycare. Children attend from 6 weeks old through age 5. Classrooms are grouped as infant (6 weeks to 12 months), toddler (13 to 24 months), and pre-kindergarten (ages 2, 3, and 4), and the centers also offer before and after school care. Instruction is traditional and faith-based, using two curricula: Abeka, grounded in biblical principles and a textbook method, and Frog Street, a developmentally focused early-childhood program. Certified teachers and assistant teachers staff the classrooms, and families stay involved in their child's progress. The work covers intellectual, physical, social, and cognitive development in a Christian environment. Graduates have moved into kindergarten well prepared, and some have been placed in advanced classes. The centers follow Maryland State Department of Education child-care ratios and health protocols.
