About CASI Head Start
Community Action of Southern Indiana runs Head Start and Early Head Start in Clark County, with classrooms in Jeffersonville and Charlestown. Head Start Preschool serves 3- and 4-year-olds, and Early Head Start works with infants, toddlers and pregnant women. Our agency dates to 1965, when it began as Clark County Community Action.
Head Start is federally funded and free to families whose income is at or below the federal poverty guideline. The program also serves children with disabilities, and our Head Start leadership includes a special services manager along with managers for family engagement, enrollment and professional development. Enrollment forms come in English and Spanish, and the focus is kindergarten readiness plus support for the whole family.
Families should know about a change of operator: the Office of Head Start has named Ohio Valley Opportunities, Inc. as the Head Start and Early Head Start provider beginning January 1, 2027. Classrooms, schedules and staff stay the same, and enrolled families do not need to take any action. Our Jeffersonville building on East 15th Street also hosts a community garden and a monthly food pantry.
