About 230 students in kindergarten through eighth grade attend The Sanibel School, and they come from Sanibel and Captiva islands as well as the southwest Florida mainland. Environmental education runs through our curriculum: younger grades take environmental studies, sixth graders hold a Shell Fair with shell studies, and classes walk the boardwalk at J.N. Ding Darling. Off-island families can attend through the district's school choice waiver process. Middle schoolers can join soccer, basketball and volleyball teams, the performing arts program, the Sea TV media production class and the National Junior Honor Society. Fifth through eighth graders can sing in the All County Honor Choir, kindergartners take swim lessons at the local recreation center, and an after-school recreation program serves grades K to 8. We provide Exceptional Student Education (ESE), speech and language instruction, and a gifted program from kindergarten through grade 8. Students in grades 3 to 8 work on Chromebooks and lead their own parent conferences. We are a National Blue Ribbon School and a PBIS Model School, and an active PTA and the Sanibel School Fund pay for enrichment programs.
