East Hill Academy
East Hill Academy works with students with autism and learning disabilities who need an individualized school program. Our goal is to strengthen academic and social skills, build self-esteem, and help each student move toward a successful return to mainstream education when that is appropriate. Teaching plans focus on the skills a child is ready to practice and the support needed to keep making progress. Families can contact the Pensacola school to discuss its current programs, admissions process, and how a student’s educational goals would be addressed.
Escambia County Acceleration Academies
Escambia County Acceleration Academies, on North Davis Highway in Pensacola, gives students ages 14 to 21 in grades 9 to 12 another route to a diploma from the School District of Escambia County. We run in partnership with the district, we are accredited by Cognia, and enrollment is free for Escambia County residents. Students take one course at a time, usually finishing each in two to four weeks, and split at least 25 hours a week between our center and online work at home. The center keeps weekday hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. all year, and online coursework is available around the clock. Each student has a Graduation Candidate Advocate who checks in several times a week, a content coach who teaches the material, and a career and life coach who helps plan for college, the military, the trades or work, including Career and Technical Education programs with industry certifications. We lend laptops to students who need them, provide free public bus passes in most cases, and keep the academy cafe stocked with free snacks and drinks. Graduates celebrate at in-person ceremonies held several times a year.
PACE Center for Girls - Escambia
Since 1994, our Pensacola center has served girls from both Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, working with community agencies that include Pensacola State College. Pace Center for Girls - Escambia belongs to a nonprofit network founded in Jacksonville in 1985, and our programs cost families nothing. A girl in our Day Program attends middle or high school classes year-round in small groups, with about 14 students per teacher, certified teachers and an individualized learning plan. Academics line up with the local school district so girls stay on track, and those who have fallen behind can recover credits and pursue a high school diploma or a GED. During the day she can see an on-site counselor, and our therapists work with girls on anxiety, self-esteem, trauma recovery and academic struggles. Parents, guardians, schools, community partners or girls themselves can start a referral at any point in the year, followed by an intake interview. Life skills training, career and college planning, community service and leadership projects round out the day. This is a day program, not a residential one, and it holds Title I status.
