Wildland firefighting, security, emergency medical services and law enforcement are among the fields students explore through our public-service career and technical education. Heartland High School also offers a-g approved courses and college and career counseling, giving students academic choices while they recover credits and work toward a diploma. We operate Selma Unified's continuation program for tenth- through twelfth-graders who are at least sixteen. Students attend daily classes with teachers for their subjects. We encourage a full-day schedule so students can make steady progress through their courses, develop core academic skills and plan what comes after high school. Selma Adult School helps adults take the next step toward a diploma, college, work, or a personal goal. In its independent-study high school diploma program, students can apply earlier credits toward a 180-credit requirement and meet weekly with a credentialed teacher. English as a Second Language classes cover reading, writing, speaking, and listening at beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels, with morning and evening options. ESL instruction also includes civics and computer skills. Career technical education connects Selma students with Valley Regional Occupational Program courses. Offerings have included certified nursing assistant, emergency medical technician, instructional aide certification, and wildland firefighting, though availability changes.
