Selma Adult School

Wildland firefighting, security, emergency medical services and law enforcement are among the fields students explore through our public-service career and technical education. Heartland High School also offers a-g approved courses and college and career counseling, giving students academic choices while they recover credits and work toward a diploma. We operate Selma Unified's continuation program for tenth- through twelfth-graders who are at least sixteen. Students attend daily classes with teachers for their subjects. We encourage a full-day schedule so students can make steady progress through their courses, develop core academic skills and plan what comes after high school. Sports offer another way to join school life and represent Heartland with classmates. Our students include learners in special education, English learners, foster youth and young people experiencing homelessness. We provide support for those students within the continuation program rather than treating credit recovery as their only educational need. The Heartland Alternative Education Center also houses Selma Independent. This separate independent-study option serves transitional kindergarten through twelfth grade and combines weekly teacher meetings with subject support and a flexible course structure.
