About Esther B. Clark School - San Jose

Esther B. Clark School (EBC) South Bay campus is a California-certified nonpublic therapeutic day school operated by Children's Health Council. It serves students in grades 5-12 with existing IEPs who have primary eligibilities such as Emotional Disability, Other Health Impaired, or Specific Learning Disability and have struggled in prior settings.

The program integrates academics, behavior support, and mental health services in a structured environment. Students receive specialized instruction in core subjects, small class sizes with a special education teacher, behavior specialist, and assistant per classroom, and four hours per week of onsite therapy including individual, family, group, and art therapy. Positive Behavior Teaching supports self-regulation and skill development with the goal of transitioning students back to less restrictive environments.

Placement occurs through referral from the student's home school district. District-based IEP teams initiate the process, followed by referral, intake, tour, and IEP amendment if accepted. The school partners with more than 70 Bay Area districts.
