California School for the Deaf, Fremont - Fremont

The California School for the Blind is a state special school in Fremont for students who are blind or have low vision. Admissions go through the student's school district: parents cannot request the referral packet themselves. Completed packets are reviewed by an admissions committee, and every completed referral receives an Assessment of Suitability for Placement lasting up to 60 days, either on campus or at the student's current program. CSB is a residential school. Students who attend, including commuters and students on temporary assignment for assessment, must be medically cleared by Student Health Services. Glankler Early Learning Center is a public special education program operated by Fremont Unified School District at 39207 Sundale Dr. in Fremont, California. It provides early intervention and preschool services for children from birth to age 5 who have disabilities including autism, visual or hearing impairments, orthopedic impairments, and other mild to severe needs. The center offers Special Day Classes for preschoolers with autism or other disabilities, inclusion classes with Head Start, an Autism Resource Center for birth to 3 year olds, and an Infant Preschool Assessment Team. Therapeutic services include speech and language, occupational therapy, behavior support, and itinerant vision and hearing services. Collaborative programs exist with California Children's Services, state and federal preschool, and Head Start. Enrollment for district residents begins with district registration followed by referral to the Preschool Assessment Team for evaluation and IEP development. Services are provided at no cost to families as part of public special education.
