Best Special Needs Schools in Duarte, California (2026)

Maryvale's early education work in Duarte began in 1999, when we took over the Land of Aws Preschool, and our current Duarte campus on Huntington Drive opened in 2011. Maryvale itself dates to 1856, when the Daughters of Charity opened Los Angeles' first orphanage, and our first early education program opened in 1968. The Duarte center serves children from birth through age 5 in full-day, year-round programs for working families, plus before- and after-school programs for school-age children. Days are built around hands-on, play-based learning with weekly themes: books and storytelling, early math with manipulatives, art, music and movement, nature exploration, and small-group instruction that prepares children for kindergarten. Most of our teachers hold an associate degree or higher in early childhood education, and all staff complete Department of Justice and FBI fingerprint clearance. Many of our programs offer subsidized preschool for eligible families, and our team helps parents through subsidy eligibility and enrollment. The Duarte campus also houses Maryvale family support services, including outpatient mental health care, and Maryvale is accredited by the Council on Accreditation.
