About Sunrise School
Sunrise School is a specialized Mt. Diablo Unified School District school in Concord that provides special education to students in transitional kindergarten through grade 7. We serve no more than 63 students in seven classes, and every classroom is a Special Day Class.
Each classroom is staffed by a special education teacher and special education assistants, supported by Behavioral Health Specialists, and keeps at least one adult for every three students. Students follow an academic program aligned with state and district standards, using modified materials and settings as needed, with modifications and accommodations written into each student's educational plan.
A structured behavior management program supports academic and social-emotional growth, and students learn to take responsibility for their learning and behavior. Students visit the library on Wednesdays and have vocal music on Fridays, and fourth and fifth graders have science on Tuesdays. Under the California Universal Meal program, every student receives breakfast and lunch at no cost.
