About Empower Academy - Mesa
Empower Academy is a private K-12 special education day school in Mesa, approved by the Arizona Department of Education and serving families from Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Queen Creek, and the wider East Valley. Founded in 2017, the school serves students with autism, intellectual disabilities, emotional disabilities, and behavioral challenges, along with other learning and developmental needs, who benefit from a smaller and more structured setting than a traditional school offers. Students are grouped by age, grade, academic needs, and social development rather than grade level alone, and classes generally hold about 10 to 12 students with a teacher and paraprofessional support.
The academic program pairs individualized instruction with structured routines, clear expectations, and social and emotional skill development. Support services include speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, counseling, one-to-one paraprofessional support, and transportation routes across parts of the East Valley. Enrichment includes animal therapy through Pawsitive Friendships, mindful yoga for elementary students, physical education twice a week, cooking classes, and supervised field trips to museums, parks, and educational events. Families can enroll privately with Arizona ESA funds or through a school district placement.
