Rural Virtual Academy Charter School

The Rural Virtual Academy is a public school that Wisconsin families attend from home, run from our office in Medford. Any Wisconsin child in grades K4 through 12 can enroll, and many partner districts let families join without filing for open enrollment. There is no cost to attend: we loan each family a Chromebook, provide internet vouchers, and supply curriculum and art supplies.

Wisconsin-licensed teachers deliver both live and self-paced instruction. Elementary students build reading, writing, math, science and social studies skills through hands-on activities, workbooks and online classes, with a parent or other adult serving as home mentor. High school classes meet live on Zoom with subject teachers, and students can earn college credit for free through dual credit courses. When a student struggles, teachers can refer them to our academic interventionists, therapists and special education teachers.

School does not stop at the screen. We hold more than 200 free in-person events and field trips across the state each year, and students choose from 45-plus clubs and activities, including eSports and dances.
