About Minnick School – Wytheville
Minnick School in Wytheville runs two programs, a General Program and an Adapted Program, for students ages 5 to 22 whose needs were not met in their public schools. Like every Minnick School, we are a state-licensed private special education day school, and our accreditation comes from the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities (VAISEF).
Every student has an IEP and comes to us through the home school division's IEP team. The local Family Assessment and Planning Team approves the placement and pays for it with Children's Services Act funds, which means parents receive no tuition bill, and the sending district provides transportation. Board Certified Behavior Analysts consult and work with students and staff every day. Master's-level social workers and counselors lead social skills groups and our social emotional learning curriculum. Model classrooms serve students with autism and multiple disabilities.
Career and technical education starts in elementary school, when each student begins an Academic and Career plan, and grows into independent living skills in high school, with work-based opportunities through the Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services. An Extended School Year summer program adds educational and social outings.
