The Siena School opened its Northern Virginia campus in 2021 on the grounds of the Unitarian Universalist Church on Hunter Mill Road in Oakton, bringing the program Siena has run in Silver Spring since 2006 to Fairfax County families. About 50 students in grades 3 to 12 attend this campus, and classes average 10 students or fewer. We teach bright, college-bound students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences who are on grade level or up to two grade levels behind in reading, writing, spelling or math. Instruction is multisensory and experiential, with daily reading classes in grades 4 to 8, study skills and executive function built into every subject, and assistive software on the Chromebooks and laptops every student uses. Students with mild ADHD may enroll, though our program is not built for significant emotional or behavioral needs. High schoolers work with a college counselor and complete internships. Students take music, drama and visual arts and compete as the Wildcats in interscholastic sports. Middle States accredits the school. Roughly 40% of families receive need-based aid, and for most families tuition qualifies as a deductible medical expense.
