About Athenian Schools
Athenian Schools operates tuition-free public charter campuses across rural Utah, including Richfield, Tremonton, Ogden, Moab, Duchesne, Roosevelt, Vernal, Ballard, Ephraim, Delta, and Nephi. The network was established in 2015 and reports a staff to student ratio of about 1 to 10.
The school uses a blended education model in which students work with an assigned Education Specialist, families submit weekly attendance reporting and meet monthly with that specialist, and students participate in progress monitoring such as the Acadience and RISE assessments. Weekly Epic Days bring students together for hands-on STEM and social studies activities led by a licensed teacher.
Special education services are available under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act for students who qualify. Services may include specially designed instruction, individualized goals and progress monitoring, related services such as speech, occupational therapy, or behavior support, and classroom accommodations, all documented in an IEP. A Section 504 process is described separately. Families start the process by contacting the Student Services Director.

Alpine Transition and Employment Center (ATEC)
The Alpine Transition and Employment Center (ATEC) is a special purpose public school operated by Alpine School District. It serves students with disabilities who have finished their high school years and continue working toward employment, independent living, and community participation through age 22. Instruction is delivered by special education teachers and classroom aides, with a speech language pathologist and a school nurse on staff. School runs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with an early out on Wednesday. ATEC also helps families connect with the adult service system, including Social Security (SSI), Medicaid, the Division of Services for People with Disabilities, Vocational Rehabilitation, Ability First, the Department of Workforce Services and WIOA, Work Ability, the Utah Center for Assistive Technology, Utah Work Incentive Planning Services, Utah Valley University, and the Family Literacy Center. Alpine School District operates a companion program, ATEC West, in Saratoga Springs.
Dan Peterson School
Dan Peterson School is Alpine School District's dedicated special education school, serving students from preschool through kindergarten, elementary, secondary, and adult transition classes. It supports students who require highly structured, self-contained, or therapeutic environments, including many who need specialized equipment and individualized care. Instruction is functional and individualized, built around growth in communication, independence, and confidence. The school frames its work around the 6 C's of critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity, citizenship, and character, and follows a five-year strategic plan focused on life skill development and family partnership. Support staff on site include speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, an adapted physical education teacher, a school psychologist, a teacher of the visually impaired, and a nursing team led by a head nurse. Kindergarten through adult transition classes run 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with preschool sessions in the morning and afternoon. Families should note that Alpine School District is dividing, and K-12 and post-secondary students living within the future Timpanogos School District boundaries will be served at the new Silver Peak School and TTEC beginning in fall 2026.
