School of Montessori Inc

The School of Montessori opened on September 1, 1973, after a group of Golden Triangle parents met to bring Montessori education closer than Houston. Our founding teacher was AMI-trained, and we still teach an AMI-recognized Montessori curriculum today. We have been in our own building on S. 16th Street in Nederland since fall 1985 and have served Mid-County families for over 50 years.

We are a nonprofit, parent-run school with programs for Pre-School, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and Grade 1. Children work with Montessori materials and have room to explore and discover on their own, which builds independence and curiosity. Our day runs Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., and families can join our enrollment wait list for the coming year.

Our families have carried this school through two hurricanes. After Rita in 2005 and Harvey in 2017, when 28 inches of water came through the building, parents and the board rebuilt with help from AMI schools around the country, and the school became a 501(c)(3) during the Harvey recovery.
