Smyrna Middle School
Smyrna Middle School became the first public school in Tennessee to earn the School of Distinction designation from the Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE). The designation recognized four parts of how we work: a challenging academic environment, internal structures such as master scheduling, ongoing review of assessment data with instructional coaches, and standards-aligned grading that shows teachers exactly where a student is struggling. We are a Rutherford County Schools middle school on Hazelwood Drive, and our students are the Panthers. Each fall our Cultures and Connections Night brings families in to celebrate the many cultures in our school and see student presentations from ELA and social studies classes. The same evening, parents can attend a literacy training on supporting reading at home, with free resources and books to take home. Students can also go out for track and field, and district buses serve families across our attendance zone.
