Achievement First Iluminar Mayoral Academy Elementary School is a public charter school in Cranston serving kindergarten through 4th grade. We belong to Achievement First, a network that grew from Amistad Academy, which opened in New Haven in 1999 with 84 fifth and sixth graders, and now serves about 15,000 students in 41 schools across Connecticut, New York and Rhode Island. Our Rhode Island schools serve students from Providence, North Providence, Warwick and Cranston, and every student is admitted through a blind lottery. The Apprenticeship Exploration School, officially NEL/CPS Construction & Career Academy, opened in September 2002 as a public charter high school for grades 9 to 12. We are one of three full high schools in Cranston, and our statewide catchment area means students from any city or town in Rhode Island can apply through an annual blind lottery. We are a small school built around two Career and Technical Education programs. Our Construction Craft Laborer pre-apprenticeship gives students a gateway into the New England Laborers' Apprenticeship Program, with hands-on work in a simulated construction lab using industry-standard tools for road building, heavy and highway work, bridges, utilities and welding. Our four-year Event Planning and Tourism program covers hotel operations, cruises, wedding planning, food and beverage operations and conventions, with internships and field trips for work-based learning hours.
