Redmond Montessori School is an authentic Montessori program in downtown Redmond, Oregon, for children from 3 months to 9 years old. We are open year round and follow the Redmond School District calendar, and we offer opt-in care days during the longer holiday breaks. Our classrooms cover the classic Montessori areas: practical life, sensorial work, language, math, art, science, and peace education. Toddlers and preschoolers learn letter sounds with sandpaper letters and build their first words with the moveable alphabet. Primary children ages 3 to 5 use concrete materials to understand addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and our elementary program builds on that work at each child's own pace. Singing, dancing, storytelling, and art with paint, clay, and watercolors happen every week. Families choose from three schedules: a school day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., an extended day from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or a full day from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Frequently Asked Questions About Special Needs Schools in Redmond

Where do I start for a Redmond child under five?
High Desert ESD. It provides EI/ECSE screening, evaluation, and specially designed instruction for children from birth until kindergarten in Crook, Deschutes, and Jefferson counties. The Redmond location is the Manzanita Building at 1212 NE 5th Street, and the office line there is 541-693-5682. Our early intervention guide explains what an evaluation covers.
Who do I contact about a school-age child?
Start with the special education contact at your child's home school, or call the Redmond School District Special Education Department at 541-923-5437. The department handles district-wide assessment tied to IEPs and 504 plans. Send a dated, written request for evaluation and keep a copy. Our evaluation request guide explains what to include.
Why should I keep my own copies of special education records?
Redmond keeps special education records for seven years after services end, then destroys them unless the family or adult student contacts the district. The district notes those records may help later with Social Security benefits, rehabilitation services, or college entrance. Request copies before the seven years run out by calling 541-923-5437.
Can an IEP team place a Redmond student in a private school?
Yes. The Oregon Department of Education says districts and IEP teams may place children in private schools as a way to provide a free appropriate public education. Those private schools must meet state standards and be approved by ODE. A parent's own choice of private school is a separate route, funded through a proportionate share of federal IDEA money. Our IEP guide explains placement.
