Apt Academy

Listed
Canby, ORGrades K-12$6,300 per year full-time; sibling discounts

Apt Academy is a Christian homeschool alternative in Canby, founded after the arrival of COVID-19 by families who wanted to rethink education for students whose needs were not being met in traditional schools. Our families register their children as homeschool students and partner with us for teacher-led group instruction in small classes, so students get the flexibility of homeschooling with the structure of a classroom. Each teacher covers a grade band: kindergarten and first grade, second and third, fourth through sixth, and seventh, eighth, and GED preparation. Students advance by mastery rather than age, with flexible pacing for both acceleration and extra support, which suits gifted and high-aptitude learners and students who are under-challenged elsewhere. We administer state-required homeschool testing and plan with older students for GED completion, college coursework, and careers. The school day includes recess, PE, hands-on science, art, and group projects. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Full-time tuition is $6,300 a year or $630 a month, with discounts for siblings, and families can also enroll in individual subjects or tutoring. Donors and local sponsors help most of our students with tuition.

Who do I contact about special education in Canby schools?
Call Canby School District Student Services at 503-266-0054. The department handles special education referrals and evaluations, IEPs, 504 plans, and related services such as specialized transportation. You can also start with your child’s school. Put your request for an evaluation in writing, date it, and keep a copy for your records.
Does my child have to change schools to get speech therapy?
Canby School District says speech therapy is offered in each school. Whether your child qualifies, and how much service they receive, is decided through an evaluation and the IEP process. If speech is your main concern, say so in your referral. Our IEP guide explains how services and minutes are written into the plan.
Where do I start for a preschool-age child in Canby?
Contact Clackamas ESD’s early intervention and early childhood special education intake at 503-675-4097. Canby School District takes over the process at kindergarten age.
What does Canby’s post-high program teach?
Canby’s Post High Transition Services serve eligible students aged 18 to 21. A stated focus is learning to get around the community across Clackamas County using public transportation. Students reach the program through the IEP process, so raise transition goals with your child’s team during the high school years and ask how the program connects to work and daily living skills.
