About Indigo Forest Academy
Children at Indigo Forest Academy in Leland spend their mornings outdoors, climbing, digging, painting, building and, when it is safe, dancing in the rain. We are a nature-based preschool modeled on forest school, pairing child-led exploration with curriculum built on the state standards of North Carolina. Our three pillars, Head, Heart and Gut, cover critical thinking, managing emotions and trusting instinct.
We run three half-day classes. Seedlings (ages 2 to 3) meet from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and focus on communication, motor skills and vocabulary. Sprouts (ages 3 to 4) gather 8:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., beginning foundational academics through play. Saplings (ages 4 to 5) attend 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., getting ready for kindergarten by practicing independence and conflict resolution.
Families choose two days a week ($325 a month), three days ($425) or five days ($700). A $50 application fee holds a waitlist spot, and the enrollment fee is $150 a year. Each summer we run a nine-week nature camp with themes like farm life, water and ice, and bugs. Children ready for elementary school can continue at our sister school, Wild Forest Academy.

Other Schools in Leland, NC
Classical Charter Schools of Leland
Classical Charter Schools of Leland opened in 2000 as Charter Day School with 53 students in kindergarten through second grade, and it remains the original campus of the CCS-America network. Today about 960 students in kindergarten through 8th grade attend our wooded campus on Bacon's Way in Brunswick County, about fifteen minutes from downtown Wilmington. Our classical curriculum teaches the foundations in order: phonics before reading, cursive handwriting, formal grammar, arithmetic taught to mastery, Latin roots and history in chronological sequence. Teachers use Direct Instruction, and character is taught daily through the school pledge. Middle schoolers can earn up to five high school credits before ninth grade in English I, Math I, Earth and Environmental Science, Latin I and Latin II. We follow a year-round calendar with a break each quarter instead of one long summer. Students take part in cheer, archery, Beta Club, Science Olympiad, history contests, drama, music and middle school sports such as soccer. As a public charter school we accept any North Carolina child through open enrollment and a lottery when grades fill, and we serve students with IEPs and Section 504 plans.
Coastal Day School
Coastal Day School in Leland, North Carolina, is a private early childhood developmental center and preschool established in 2015 to serve children from toddler through kindergarten readiness (ages 1 to 6) across Brunswick County. Maintaining a low 6:1 student-to-teacher ratio, Coastal Day School utilizes the multisensory Letterland phonics program, hands-on mathematics manipulatives, and fine-motor stations to cultivate school readiness. The school provides a warm, inclusive setting that accommodates children with speech and language delays, sensory sensitivities, and emerging developmental differences, welcoming private therapists directly into classrooms for collaborative support.
North Brunswick High School
North Brunswick High School is the Brunswick County Schools high school for the Leland area, home of the Scorpions. Ninth through twelfth graders can take Advanced Placement classes through our AP Academy, join AVID, build skills in Career and Technical Education courses, enroll in JROTC, and study Spanish or French. Credit recovery and English as a Second Language instruction are part of the program as well. Our Exceptional Children department includes 12 special education teachers, and one assistant principal serves as the administrative liaison for EC services. Students can also turn to four school counselors assigned by last name, a career development and special populations coordinator, a school psychologist, a behavior specialist, a school social worker and a school nurse. Outside class, students take part in cultural arts, choral events, soccer and other athletics, and use the school library media center. Seniors take ACT WorkKeys, and the district provides bus routes and school lunch.
