About The Kessler Center School
The Kessler Center School is a New York State-approved private special education school offering day and residential placements for students ages 5 to 21 with developmental disabilities. Licensed by NYSED and OPWDD and serving as one of just nine Certified Residential Schools in New York State, it supports students from across the state who need highly individualized care, including those with autism, co-occurring diagnoses, and complex behavioral needs. The school operates as a program of Easterseals New York.
A whole-child, 12-month program blends academic instruction, speech therapy, life skills, and behavioral support designed to meet each student's needs at home, in the classroom, and beyond. Every part of the school day is intended to promote emotional regulation, skill acquisition, and meaningful engagement, with close collaboration between staff and families to ensure consistency across settings.
The residential model is built around Intermediate Care Facility homes licensed as Children's Residential Project beds through OPWDD. Students live in one of three 8-bed homes on campus, where structured routines and clinical support reinforce life skills, emotional growth, and community integration. Shared staffing across the school and residences provides continuity, consistent behavior plans, and smooth transitions throughout the day.
