About Devereux New York
Devereux New York, part of Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health, provides a wide range of educational, clinical, residential, and community-based programs for youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, emotional and behavioral differences, and dual diagnoses. Its state-approved Chapter 853 residential and day school serves children and adolescents ages 5 to 22 who have special education needs.
The school follows an individualized, multidisciplinary team approach, developing an Individualized Education Plan for each student and ensuring the achievement of customized goals. Services include psychiatric, clinical, and educational supports; speech and reading; occupational and physical therapy; life-skills development; transition planning; and behavior management, all delivered in small classroom settings with certified special education teachers and teaching assistants.
A traditional school day includes adaptive physical education, art, music, and library programs, along with ability- and affinity-based vocational opportunities in the school and the community. Devereux New York also operates residential programs serving nearly 100 youth and a growing continuum of care that includes its CARES autism program and the new Devereux Day Academy in Highland.
