Ulster BOCES Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning at Port Ewen

Our Port Ewen campus, known as CITL at Port Ewen, is one of three Ulster BOCES special education centers, with sister centers in Ulster Park and Saugerties. We serve students ages 5 to 21 whose IEPs call for specialized programs or supports, placed through their home districts' Committees on Special Education.

Across our centers, special classes run at 12:1:1, 8:1:1 and 6:1:1, each staffed by a full-time special education teacher and a teaching assistant. Programs are grouped into four K-12 academies: Maple for autism and life skills programs, Oak for management needs programs, Cedar for the ALPHA middle and high school programs, and Birch for short and long term therapeutic programs. Extended School Year, related services, assistive technology and a behavior support team complete the offerings.

At Port Ewen, therapeutic support, hands-on learning, work experiences and trusted relationships help students move past anxiety. Our Therapeutic Transition Programs support K-12 students facing an acute mental health crisis or major life event.
