About Cleary School for the Deaf - Nesconset
Cleary School for the Deaf is a private, state-supported 4201 school that has served Deaf students on Long Island since 1925. The Nesconset campus at 301 Smithtown Boulevard houses the elementary program for students who still need teachers of the deaf in a small student-to-staff classroom.
Instruction covers math, social studies, science, and literacy in American Sign Language, a signed support system, or spoken English, following a family communication plan. Students receive daily speech, with occupational therapy, physical therapy, and counseling when the Committee on Special Education includes them. Satellite elementary classrooms and integrated classes sit in East Islip elementary schools, and a high school program also operates with East Islip.
